PRSA Chicago is pleased to announce that the annual “Agency Leaders” event will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at Nacional 27. Come enjoy a lively panel discussion with Chicago’s PR agency leaders about current trends and the state of the industry.

Panelists include Rana Komar, Weber Shandwick; Rick Murray, Edelman; Patti Temple Rocks, GolinHarris; Brad Wilks, MSLGROUP; Maxine Winer, FleishmanHillard; and Bill Zucker, Ketchum. The luncheon will be moderated by Jim Motzer, DePaul University.

Rana Komar has been with Weber Shandwick for more than 13 years. She serves as the general manager of Chicago, where she oversees operations as well as several of the firm’s major client relationships, including Mars and Novartis Animal Health, among others. Prior to this role, Rana served as the North American consumer practice lead, helping to drive transformative ideas and integration across the Weber Shandwick portfolio of consumer-marketing clients. Rana has also held roles at Dome Communications where she led the ConAgra Foods Refrigerated team; and at Edelman, where she managed the Kimberly Clark account for five years, working on educating and engaging moms on behalf of GoodNights, Huggies Wipes and Pull-Ups. Rana earned her bachelor’s degree in political science and music from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill.

Rick Murray leads Edelman’s operations in the Midwest out of the firm’s home office in Chicago. Market leaders for 61 years, the 625 people of Edelman Chicago are proud to serve the brand marketing, corporate reputation and social/digital needs for clients of all sizes throughout the region. Prior to assuming this role, Rick served as general manager of Edelman’s Diversified Services unit; president of me2revolution (Edelman’s pioneering social media lab); and global president of Edelman Digital, the world’s largest social/digital agency. Rick was previously EVP of GolinHarris; president of experiential and sales-promotion agencies, Motivation Media and The Promotion Network; and held number of sales and marketing roles at Ocean Spray Cranberries and PepsiCo Canada. He sits on the board of the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, the Chicago Architecture Foundation and the Word of Mouth Marketing Association (WOMMA). He’s also an adviser to Chicago Ideas Week, Chicago Sister Cities (World Business Chicago) and GenConnect. Rick holds a bachelor’s in economics from the University of Vermont.

Patti Temple Rocks is managing director for GolinHarris (GH), a multinational public relations firm with 700 employees in 34 offices. After two previous stretches at GH, she returned in 2011 to help oversee the agency’s massive operational restructuring – described recently in PR News as, “a more holistic approach to engaging clients’ audiences,” and in The New York Times as “PRevolving.” As GH PRevolves its workforce from generalist PR practitioners to specialists, Patti is responsible for attracting, motivating and retaining employees while delivering brand-building ideas for clients like BP, General Mills, McDonald’s and Unilever. In her 30 years of communications experience, Patti has held leadership positions in three different areas of the industry: ad agency, corporate and PR agency. This diversity of experience now drives her passion for integrating communications platforms at the local, national and global levels. Today, she ranks among the communications industry’s most recognized leaders in corporate social responsibility; creative-campaign planning; marketing and brand strategy; and strategic-communications planning. Patti holds a bachelor’s in communication from Albion College in Albion, Mich.

Brad Wilks

Brad Wilks is an award-winning public relations and investor relations professional with nearly 30 years of experience providing communications counsel to clients ranging from large public companies, to private organizations and their leaders. Prior to joining MSLGROUP, he headed the Chicago office of Sard Verbinnen & Co for seven years where he led client engagements for Blue Bunny, Hillshire Brands (formerly Sara Lee), Kroger, Select Comfort and Walgreens. Before that, he led the Chicago office of Ogilvy Public Relations, where he was the team leader for LG Electronics. Brad has a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University and a master’s degree from Ball State University. He was previously chairman of the board of the National Investor Relations Institute; and is a member of the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, Economic Club of Chicago and the Executives Club of Chicago. He is also chairman of Goodcity, a not-for-profit incubator in Chicago.

Maxine Winer is senior partner and general manager of the Chicago office of FleishmanHillard, and is also a member of the firm’s senior management committee. She has more than 25 years of experience in corporate reputation; crisis and issues management; and marketing communications for clients including Allstate, Burger King, Career Education, General Growth Properties (GGP), the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, United Airlines, USAA Financial Services and The U.S. Army. Before joining FleishmanHillard in 2010, Maxine spent five years with Edelman, where she was EVP and deputy general manager of the reputation management practice in the agency’s Chicago office. She is currently on the board of Junior Achievement of Chicago; and is also a member of the Economic Club of Chicago and the Executives Club of Chicago. A native Chicagoan, she holds a degree in journalism from San Diego State University.

Bill Zucker, a 15-year veteran of television journalism, is a senior counselor on food issues and reputation for Ketchum, a global public relations firm; and he also heads the company’s Midwest regional offices. In his public relations career, he has prepared media and reputation strategies for a variety of companies and industries; and is a specialist in crisis management, with expertise in class-action litigation, food recalls, product liability and public accidents. Bill was named PR News “Crisis Communicator of the Year” in 2005. As head of Ketchum’s Midwest region, he leads a business that includes some of regions top brand names including ConAgra Foods, Kleenex and Whirlpool Corporation. Ketchum’s Chicago and Pittsburgh office boast specialties in brand marketing; corporate reputation; and food and agriculture. Bill holds a bachelor’s in government, journalism and political science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Jim Motzer is an instructor of public relations at DePaul University who brings more than 30 years of public relations experience in the consumer-marketing arena with an emphasis in the food and beverage; retail; and sports industries.
